Reedy River
The Friends of the Reedy River have asked the Greenville County Bird Club to help in their efforts to preserve and improve the Reedy River, one of our area’s natural resource treasures. The river and its surrounding environment are home to many and varied species of flora and fauna. Our Club has a unique opportunity and capability to bring attention to one very important element of the river's permanent and transitory population, its birds.

Our charge is to catalog the bird species that live in and around the River, from its origin in Travelers Rest to Lake Greenwood. Our efforts aren't meant to be a scholastically definitive study on the river's aviary inhabitants, migrants, and their seasonal population densities; rather, to catalog all the River’s bird species, conduct at least one count for all four seasons, and provide a formal bird checklist.

By periodically providing this type of information, we will demonstrate the value of the Reedy River and its part in supporting many plant and animal species, and in particular, its resident and migratory birds. The things that a population values are generally well cared for by that population. A relatively small percentage of a population can sway the opinion and actions of a large but neutral, inactive or apathetic population. We can be that positive small percentage!!
